IN GLORY OF US AS COMRADES

NESH PENDRAGON
After a long, cold and rainy stay at home school is finally here again. I take this chance to wish you all a safe journey back to Narok and to those who were still around please remember to go say hello to mummy before you resume school this coming semester.
Let me remind us that we have come a long way as an institution but a lot more has to be done not just for us now but for posterity. The enemy still remains the administration. Suspension of students based on weak allegations. The Non-functioning state of SOMMU and the general poor management of student affairs by the management are still thorny issues. A lot of new challenges await us, the large number of students who will be on session to the ‘new’ mabati classes that might be used by some of us if not all.
Most of us have already travelled to Narok; having to go check on either their missing marks, to sit for a supplementary exam or the special exams. As you sit your exams I want to wish you the best of luck. May the gods remember you and see you through this trying moment. For the fourth years I wish you excellent remembrance but remember exam supervisors have turned into little demonic angels sent from hell.
Let’s remember the 139 comrades who were suspended on baseless grounds. Let’s try and uphold our integrity least we see another number suspended. It’s my prayer that these frequent suspensions will unite us as comrades and stand together to fight for better laws that govern and deal with affairs of the comrades.
For the freshmen joining this school: WELCOME to the land of second chances. Apart from academic success I wish you good in your new state as a young adult. I also wish you good in your social life of finding a girlfriend and boyfriends. There is a new hostel which I hope you will have the opportunity to use. Condoms are free and so is sex as long as it is between a boy and a girl. Here we are a conservative society. Please remember that AIDS kills but the school health unit can treat you from an STI. A girl can get pregnant on a single ejaculation, so please pay attention to Google and on orientation day to learn on how to use a condom. Apart from the free condoms please find your way to liquor bank (ama Kwa okwiri). Alcohol is not free as condoms but it’s not expensive also. Teach yourself how to drink. But at the same time to not end up a drunkard; on Sunday show up to church. Give God his respects.
LIQUOR BANK
For the veteran comrades who have rushed back to Narok, Okwiri is still open. Please go pay him a visit but do not drink yourself to death, remember you still have exams next week; you cannot also afford to fail a supplementary examination. Do not break your beds for those who have been caged at home and the dry spell has been killing you. Make love as much as you can. Ensure the bed is not broken you will still need it for the next four months. 3.2s Ladies if you still have a boyfriend please be ready to let him disappoint you. New and fresh thighs are coming to school expect to be forgotten for the cute and naïve fresha.
The new boys who have been introduced into politics and the self-proclaimed goons respect the ones who came before you. They also felt the adrenaline rush posting their ideas in political forums. Now it’s your time make good use of it, but remember not to disrespect the one who fought for you to experience such freedom.
For those aspiring to lead, remember the power belongs to the people. You are in to serve the comrades. Let’s aspire to better the lives of each and every one of us. Bigotry should be unaccepted in our society. The race will be tough. I will be seeking the mandate of the comrades through #TheMovement, tupatane Kwa debe.
Let’s not repeat our past mistakes. We cannot afford to advocate for change and still use tribal politics to launch us into power. Let not a few people out of greed drag us back to the dark era of sour tribal politics. At the end of the day Maasai Mara is bigger than any individual.
For the glory of us as comrades and for the greater glory of God the Father I wish you the best of success in your fourth coming semester. May the dreams and aspirations of your heart see the light of the day.
GLORY GLORY GLORY TO MAASAI MARA UNIVERSITY.

I WISH YOU WERE HERE

The Invisible Dragon I have a dragon inside of me He jumps in my mouth when I want to be free He grabs at my throat when I want to speak He makes me so scared that I feel very weak You can’t see my dragon coz he’s deep down inside But he makes me so nervous; all I want to do is hide I wish that I could speak to you – I wish I had the choice But the dragon inside of me has snatched away my voice When you ask a question and all l want to do is answer you When you call my name and make me think about   you I simply can’t answer – my throats too tight Coz my dragon says “BOO” and I jump with fright It really makes me sad; all I want to do is cry Coz I’d love to be your friend if I wasn’t so shy So if my face doesn’t smile when you ask me to play It’s because this pesky dragon just won’t go away

Free thinker

FREE THINKER Am sited with my laptop on my lap on a chilly Tuesday evening  trying to confirm the opening dates for my 2016 academic year, this thought crosses my mind: do we really know the true meaning of the phrase “institution of higher learning?”. I check my universities website and alas it has the same phrase. Then I ask myself; do the people or rather the students know the true meaning or the power in the phrase “institution of higher learning”. Am writing this blog in a somber and sorrowful mood.  Not to shame, insult or critics anybody but to acknowledge the challenges institutions of higher learning are facing. An important idea in the definition of “institution of higher learning” is the notion of academic freedom. I will not indulge myself in the whole notion of defining academic freedom but again l ask does anyone really acknowledge what academic freedom translates to? I happen to love my motherland country Kenya at the same time I happen to love my school too...
